8A- Solving the Problem
Hey Everyone! The opportunity that I chose is presented in my last post as well, but it is helping military veterans readjust to civilian life. It is difficult for military men and women a lot of the time with their transition back to the civilian life, and in many cases, they do not receive enough support. A not-for-profit organization funded by government grants, donations, and volunteers would be providing military veterans, and their families, all of the necessary tools for a successful transition back to civilian life. Through my programs, I would like to provide military veterans with assistance in finding jobs, getting them homes, providing mental health support, and more. The unmet need opportunity that I have identified is a service that will welcome veterans with open arms to provide all assistance needed in their transition back home. Our military men and women do so much for our country, and I think we should give a little back to them for all they have done.

I really like that you specifically laid out the ways your organization would be funded as well as specifically outlining all the ways you plan to give veterans the help that they need. It helps to paint a clearer picture of how exactly the non-profit would be benefiting veterans. All of the services you plan to offer are things that returning military personnel could really use help with after being separate from society for so long so it is a really great idea.
ReplyDeleteDakota,
ReplyDeleteI like the mission that you are trying to help Veterans readjust to civilian life. I know it would be a tough project to take on, but it would be rewarding. As long as you are able to raise money through grants and donations the help and support you give to Veterans would make a major difference in their lives.
Hi Dakota,
ReplyDeleteNice job on your post! I really like your idea and agree with what you talked about in your post. I had not even thought ahead yet about how to start funding my initial project. I especially like how everything veterans and their families need is included in one organization. This would help keep veterans and their families from getting lost in the current system or overlooked. I’m looking forward to reading future posts to see how the idea progresses.

Dakota,
ReplyDeleteI like your general idea. Our military personnel live in a different world in their duty posts, and it is often difficult for them to make the transition back into civilian life. When they are serving elsewhere, most of their needs for daily living are provided for them, and everyone else is working at roughly the same mission. When they return, they have to provide for their own needs, and almost everyone else around them is involved in different goals. As you said, our military people often do not receive enough support upon returning.
That being said, I wonder if your mission is overly broad for a beginning. Perhaps there are one or two related aspects of difficulty that you could focus on at first, and then expand as your resources grow. You say you want to provide ALL assistance needed in their transition back- this may be too big of a goal for a start-up company. Perhaps you might identify the biggest unmet need they have, and work to improve that one.
I do agree with you, and I was raised in a Marine family- our military personnel do so much for our country, and we do not do enough for them when they come home. Your heart is definitely in the right place. However, trying to do too much too soon leads to burnout, and I wouldn’t want to see that when you have such compassion for others in need.
